My Past is Not Today

The moment I saw that new Rainbow Rocks music video "My Past is Not Today", I knew that I had to draw Sunset Shimmer in her triumphant phoenix pose at the end. If you haven't seen it yet, here's a link www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqnbYU… At first I was planning on doing a collage illustrating what was featured in the three new music videos. But then I decided to do something that celebrated the story arch of Sunset Shimmer. This is a character who went from being a power hungry stereotypical "mean girl" villain of a high school musical plot, to being one of the most endearing and sympathetic characters in the franchise. And my favorite thing about it all, is that her transition is paced out and very believable. It's one thing for the villain to redeem themselves at the end of the story, it's quite another thing to go into how said character struggles to find compassion and forgiveness after she threatened to enslave her school as a raging she-demon.... uh, no offense.
